Homemade Instrument Making Workshop

SuniThe Music Institute of Sullivan and Ulster Counties, Inc. is hosting their annual Homemade Instrument Making Workshop. This workshop will be run by Skip LaPlante who has been building, performing on, and composing for musical instruments built from trash for nearly 35 years.

We will be creating musical instruments with cardboard tubes, tin cans, plastic bottles, and other unwanted household items (Like this cool one stringed cello to your left!). Participants are invited to bring their own “trash” (Rubber bands, garden hose, styrofoam chunks, clay, cardboard tubes boxes, and bits of metal)!

This workshop will be divided into groups by age and registration. There will be a class with parental participation for children aged 9 and under from 5 PM – 7 PM. The level of the class will be aimed toward a younger audience. Final times will be announced after registration, after registrants have submitted the times that might work best for them.

Tentative class times are as followed:

– There will be a class with parental participation for children aged 9 and under from 5 PM – 7 PM;
– 10 AM – 12 PM for children under 7 without parental guidance;
– 2 PM – 4 PM for children ages 8 – 13;
– and 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM for teenagers and adults.

This event will take place at our Ellenville Studio (40 Market Street) from June 23 – 27. We hope to see you all there!

Price: $25/day or $100/5 days; participants may choose to pay $25 at the beginning of each class during the four day session or pay $100 upfront on or before the first day of class.
